Tae Kwon Do 3 Step Sparring (Sambo Matsoki)

Three Step sparring is designed for the beginner to learn the basic techniques.
Three Step sparring teaches the student many things including proper distance, correct facing, forearm conditioning, correct blocking, correct stances, Counter Attacking and timings.

  • Attacker and defender start facing each other in chumbi position (parallel ready stance), at a distance of just less than a walking stance apart.
  • Distance taking - To be executed using right foot forward passing half way past defenders left foot.
  • The attacker starts by stepping their right leg back into in a left walking stance, executing a low section outer forearm block.
  • All attacks are three mid section punches in walking stance initiated by the defender.
  • Counter attacks should finish within 50mm of their target. The final move in all sequences is the counter attack with no return to a guard position.
  • After the counter attack, the attacker brings their right foot back and returns to chumbi position before changing attack and defence.
  • After the counter attack, the defender returns to chumbi position without any extraneous steps or movements.
